Memory scripts are patterns that help to organize information about the world as if in a mental framework. What memory patterns do we have of the place where we live and how do they connect us to each other and to our cities? The public art installation "Memory Scripts" was created by the multidisciplinary visual artist Vitjitua Ndjiharine on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the city partnership between Windhoek and Berlin. Text, architecture and everyday experiences of urban life are fused together to comment on the different perspectives, memories and personal histories of these cities and to stimulate a dialog about the interconnected experiences of urban environments.

Projected onto the Berlin House of Representatives, the work uses the urban space as a stage for shared memories, a reflection on culture and future-oriented dialog. In this way, the public space becomes a place to engage with themes and issues that are linked to the lived experiences in both cities. These lead to the exploration of collective and individual memories and stories of both cities, their intertwined history and the relationships of urban identity. The installation also addresses topics such as the economy, housing and living conditions, the connection to the city, the history of culture and politics and the responsibility of citizens. Its interweaving with the understanding of culture and identity in both cities is intended to create space for solidarity and social exchange.
