With this third Mendelssohn organ concerto, Kay Johannsen concludes the performance of all of the composer's organ works. The last of the Six Sonatas (1844/45), which can be regarded as trend-setting for the development of organ music in the 19th century, is now performed, an apotheosis on the chorale Our Father. The theme of the St. Paul's Overture, which can be heard as an organ arrangement, fits in with this. The famous Wedding March from A Midsummer Night's Dream is also actually an orchestral setting, and the intimate songs without words were intended for the piano - but they sound perfect in Wilhelm Gottschalg's (1827-1908) organ version!
