Mexican Institute of Sound is coming to the Gretchen for its 20th anniversary with a full live band line-up.

The Mexican Institute of Sound (M.I.S.) project is the brainchild of producer Camilo Lara from Mexico City. He has been creating irresistible beats for the world's dance floors for 20 years now, using traditional rhythms such as cumbia and cha-cha-cha as well as samples from the entire Latin American popular culture. M.I.S. is a tribute to the sound of an entire country, across styles and eras. The result is songs that sound fresh and catchy, breathing the aura of a bygone Mexico and bringing cities, colors, people, tastes and dances that were thought lost into the present. On seven albums to date, Camilo Lara has proven with M.I.S. that it is possible to find the magical formula for the musical, cultural and symbolic fusion of mariachi soul, the spirit of the sonideros and the most exciting electronic and synthetic sounds.

February saw the release of "Algo + Ritmo 2004-2024", a retrospective that packs a punch: 20 years of cumbia, electronica, punk rock and low-fi, enriched with two new tracks. "Stop" with Ceci Bastida and "Bolero", a collaboration with Foudeqush and Esteman. The album will be accompanied by a tour and we are delighted to have Camilo Lara and his M.I.S. on stage with a full live band.

Camilo Lara is one of the most important personalities on the Latin American music scene and has achieved enormous international recognition. His music appears in films, TV series (Narcos, Breaking Bad, Californication) and video games and he has collaborated on remixes for bands and friends such as Placebo, Beck, Gecko Turner, Perez Prado, Mazarin, Quantic Soul Orchestra, Metallica, Gershon Kingsley, Irving Fields and Le Hammond Inferno, to name but a few. His work as a producer has earned him a Grammy and eight Latin Grammy nominations.
