It is the year 1969: because his father starts a new job, the 13-year-old boy also has to move to Belziger Strasse, into an atmosphere of rage against the whole world. Here the family, marked by the traumas of war, threatens to disintegrate; here the reality of the street, brutal and tender, rough and beautiful, beckons the longing for love and life. Sometimes, he learns, you have to risk something, very rarely even your life. In his new novel "Das Ende vom Lied", Michael Wildenhain tells of a West Berlin beyond the events of 1968, a city that will never exist again - as virtuously and epically as only someone who was there can.
