Microtonal Ensemble

Straight Ahead Ensemble: The ensemble under the direction of old master Dan Gottshall plays classic jazz repertoire in the students' own arrangements. Swing, bebop, jazz - Straight and Ahead. ----

Microtonal Ensemble: Ever wondered how to use Microtones to spice up your Jazz Harmonies? So do we!Popular jazz musicians such as Jacob Collier, Larry Goldings or Jake Sherman have already incorporated "microtones" into some of their works, but that's just the tip of the iceberg: microtonal music not only offers us more colorful, new jazz harmonies, but also access to non-European music cultures, whose "vocabulary" (this time focusing on Moroccan Gnawa music) we integrate and with whose tone intervals, new to Western ears, we experiment.This semester, the Microtonal Ensemble has been working with 31 tones per octave and, for the first time, with microrhythmics, and we look forward to presenting the results to you on this Ensemble Night!
