Ex-Beastie Boys member Mike D recently visited Germany to present the exhibition he co-curated, "Mishpocha. The Art of Collaboration" at the Jewish Museum in Frankfurt. In an interview with "Der Spiegel" at the opening, he said: "I have a collaborative background.

I often think about the fact that you can write or play a song for someone else."

The wild power of artistic collaboration characterized the work of the Beastie Boys - when Michael Diamond, Adam Yauch and Adam Horovitz were in a room bouncing ideas off each other, basically anything could happen.

But even when Mike D released solo songs, they always sounded a bit like team sports. And that also applies to the concerts that Mike D will be playing in Europe this summer.

The music you can expect there is probably best described as "psych jazz funk". If the single "A Lot", released in January, is anything to go by, it can only be exciting: He raps on a piano melody and subtle beats and still manages to build up an energy that is usually only found in the exciting, wild corners of jazz.
