Double birthday party

John Coltrane is one of the most influential jazz musicians of all time. Together with the congenial trumpeter Miles Davis, the saxophonist shaped the sound of the 1950s/60s and was involved in trend-setting recordings such as "Milestones" and the million-seller "Kind of Blue". His own album "Giant Steps" is also one of the most important jazz records of this period. On the 100th birthday of these two musical giants, two of the greatest jazz musicians of our time pay tribute to the legacy of their ancestors. For the celebrated saxophonist Ravi Coltrane, this is literally true: as the son of John Coltrane and the pianist Alice Coltrane, he has been following in his parents' footsteps for decades. Like them, he combines the rich jazz tradition with an innovative attitude that constantly leads him to new musical shores. Together with his band and Miles enthusiast Terence Blanchard on trumpet, he builds a bridge between the music of the brilliant Coltrane-Davis duo and the jazz of our time.
