art and the art market, and Anja Salomonowitz is the one who breaks new
new ways dramaturgically and cinematically to tell the story of a complex
women's lives.

SLEEPING WITH A TIGER is a Lassnig biopic with its own form. The painter is embodied at every age - whether 6, 19, 64 or 94 years old - by the actress Birgit Minichmayr. She moves through time as an eternally identical figure.
As Maria Lassnig, the abandoned daughter, when she sits in front of her mother's grave in a colorful plaid sweater and writes in a notepad: "She was never there. She put you up with your grandmother and has been away." As Maria, the misunderstood artist, when her picture is covered up at an exhibition and she only comments on it quietly with a slight sigh. Maria, the quiet thinker, whose ideas also enrich her 10 years younger lover Arnulf Rainer (Oskar Haag). Maria Lassnig, the self-confident painter, when she later loudly criticizes the hanging of her paintings in a gallery.
Birgit Minichmayr is always Maria Lassnig; an artistic translation for the painter's mental state. It is said of Maria Lassnig that she was ageless: wise as a young girl and young at heart as an old woman. It also translates her physical painting, her "seeing and feeling the world from the inside out", into a cinematic language. Anja Salomonowitz sensitively and creatively paints a cinematic, inner portrait of this exceptional artist.
This film is therefore no longer really a biopic. It is a painterly description of how memories and feelings are not anchored in time and can evoke images at any time.
