Dominik Susteck (*1977): ZEITFIGUREN

Dominik Susteck (*1977) performs his work Zeitfiguren, a piece commissioned by the Archdiocese of Paderborn, which musically explores the tension between human time and divine eternity.

Different worlds of sound unfold in six movements: "Strahlen" and "Leuchten" hint at the divine, "Verschlungener Gang" reflects human lifespan, "Zeit" and "Warten" show the incomprehensibility of time, and "Akkordecho" sounds like an echo of the heavenly Jerusalem.

Dominik Susteck has deliberately named his work
deliberately named his work Zeitfiguren. The problem of time occupies a central place in philosophical and theological discourse: While "eternity" is one of God's attributes, human life is limited, bound up in the tension of "already" and "not yet". The fact that the eternal God can also be experienced in this in-between space is the guiding idea behind the movements.

The performance will take place on the Heilige-Geist-Kirche organ, Berlin's oldest Walcker organ, a work by the well-known organ builder E. F. Walcker & Co from Ludwigsburg. Susteck, a multi-award-winning organist and composer of contemporary organ music, combines improvisation, modern timbres and traditional organ art into a distinctive whole in his concerts.
