Raül Refree
Barcelona-based musician, composer and producer Raül Refree (b. 1976) is a leading figure in contemporary Spanish music, widely recognized for his role in the so-called "Nuevo Flamenco" movement and for a practice that moves fluidly between song, tradition and experimental sound. His extensive body of work spanning solo albums, film scores and genre-bending collaborations is characterized by an approach that emphasizes intimacy, risk-taking and artistic coherence.
A key project in his oeuvre is Los Ángeles, the duo album with Rosalía. Conceived as a radically reduced recording, the album had a considerable influence on the contemporary understanding of flamenco due to its austerity and emotional intensity and is also exemplary of Refree's long-standing engagement with the reinterpretation of traditional forms.
Refree has collaborated with artists such as Guitarricadelafuente, Niño de Elche, Rodrigo Cuevas, Kiko Veneno, Amaia, Silvia Pérez Cruz, Lina and Lee Ranaldo. In addition to his production work, his solo practice focuses on acoustic and electric guitar explorations, enhanced by sampled field recordings, ghostly voices and muted electronics, often presented in immersive live performances.
Francisco Riffo
Francisco Riffo is a composer and sound artist from the southern city of Puerto Montt in Chile.
His works are based on the use of computers, especially Max/MSP and Ableton Live, to develop compositions and algorithms based on repetition and clearly defined structures. He only uses one or two synthesizers, which are changed intuitively over time. These interactions create rhythmically multi-layered music that is reminiscent of dance music, but can also be experienced in a contemplative way while sitting down.
