The works of Cologne-based artist Monika Lioba Lang are enigmatic and ambiguous. Inspired by fairy tales and myths, social reality blends into her works. Her techniques are diverse, everyday and yet surprising, inviting the viewer to let their own thoughts flow. She deliberately uses a very familiar formal language and incorporates the current space. Through disruptions and irritations, however, she always brings the viewer back down to earth.
After training as a stone sculptor, the Bottrop-born artist studied at the Kunstakademie in Münster under Heinz Breloh and Ulrich Erben and most recently as a master student under Katharina Fritsch. She has exhibited her work in numerous exhibitions in Germany and abroad.
