At first glance, Dürrenfelde is one of those typical, sleepy communities in the Sodümer-Land district where hares and foxes still say goodnight to each other. But far from it. Ever since district administrator Dr. Dörfer and the local council announced the plans for a new outlet center in the Heringsbrunfter depression, there has been turmoil in what is actually such a peaceful gem.

Two citizens' initiatives are fighting over the future of the village and dividing the residents into opposing camps. An economic boom or the protection of idyllic rural life? Opinions seem to differ widely. When the mayor and the 12 members of the local council are mysteriously killed, the village community threatens to spiral out of control.
