mosaikoerper - zwischen Körper und Identität

In the organizer's words:

Our multimedia exhibition "mosaikoerper - Between Body and Identity" will take place from 27.03. - 30.03.2024 at Kunstquartier Bethanien. Our aim is to use creative and multimedia approaches to make marginalized perspectives and realities of life in the context of body and identity visible.
By exploring topics such as body norms, sexual identity, queerness, menstruation, racism and mental health, we aim to capture and question common social norms and media images. The portrayal of "standardized beautiful" people continues to dominate all areas of our perception. The diversity of our society is not adequately reflected and increases the pressure for self-optimization. These "ideals" are often closely linked to gender attributions, which continue to be strongly influenced by a binary gender system. The misconception that a person's appearance allows conclusions to be drawn about their identity, their "value" in society and their role leads to discrimination, stereotypes and prejudices that need to be overcome.
We believe that those who are directly affected by the project themes can make the best decisions about artists and priorities. That is why we have reserved spaces in Kunstquartier Bethanien for Berlin communities, associations and organizations. There they will work together with artists from their networks and present their perspectives on the project theme. There will also be a space for newcomers, who we will select as a project team. Workshops on the project themes are intended to make physicality tangible and encourage self-reflection.
Our aim is to create a space for dialog and discourse that illuminates complex contexts, raises awareness, overcomes prejudices and focuses on empowerment and networking.
