Motherwitch
In a tragic accident, the painter Eleni loses her children, plunging her into deep grief and despair. When Michalakis enters her life, the boy helps her perform a ritual: using his blood, she paints a portrait intended to bring her children back to life. But instead of finding redemption, she unleashes a curse, and something ancient rises from the shadows.
With *MOTHERWITCH*, director Minos Papas crafts a *slow-burn* horror film that delves deep into Greek mythology. Set against the backdrop of British-occupied Cyprus in 1882, faith, superstition, and ancient legends shape people’s lives. Stunning imagery transforms the film into a painting full of somber beauty and creates a unique visual language. With its blend of folklore, trauma, and underlying horror, MOTHERWITCH draws inspiration from filmmakers such as Ari Aster and Robert Eggers.
