Sarah Willis, horn player with the Berliner Philharmoniker since 2001, sought access to the musical culture of Cuba through her love of salsa. After traveling to Havana for the first time in 2017 to give a master class there, she began a close exchange with the local music scene. Together with the Havana Lyceum Orchestra, a group of former music students, and conductor José Antonio Méndez Padrón, she launched the successful "Mozart y Mambo" project. In this unconventional, lively bridge between the old and new world, works by Mozart enter into a dialog with traditional Cuban music such as salsa, mambo and son. With original compositions and arrangements, Mozart's dancing lightness merges with the Cuban attitude to life. The result? A program full of musical magic, rhythmic energy and deeply felt passion that radiates that summer feeling and simply puts you in a good mood!
