Musical friendships were forged both in the 18th century and today, transcending national borders. The intimate musical connection between Bach and both French and Italian music becomes apparent to the listener when the two musicians from Germany and Argentina perform compositions by Bach, Vivaldi, Telemann and Hotteterre.
The Suite in c- BWV 997 plays a special role here: only surviving in copies, it poses the question for both publishers and performers as to exactly which instrument it was written for. There is a somewhat simplified version for solo lute, but also a version with a final virtuoso double for an unspecified melody instrument and basso continuo. The range fits the baroque transverse flute exactly; the style, timbre and key are reminiscent of the Musical Offering, but also of the St. Matthew Passion...
This suite is now being performed for the first time at the Leipzig Museum of Musical Instruments, and listeners are in for a surprise!
