His soccer career was a journey full of adventure: Thomas Hitzlsperger played in three major European leagues, was a national player and won important titles. But probably the most courageous step of his career was his coming out as a homosexual professional footballer in 2014 - a milestone in the fight against homophobia. In his book "Mutproben" (together with Holger Gertz // Kiepenheuer & Witsch), he now provides a look behind the scenes of professional sport, reporting on role attributions, violence and racism, but also on solidarity and genuine sporting spirit. He talks about his life story and his historic move with sports reporter Jochen Breyer, who won the German Television Award for his presentation of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
