In the organizer's words:
23rd Night of Churches on September 12 in Hamburg –
Theme: “There’s Always Something New to Marvel At”
On Saturday, September 12, 2026, numerous Christian congregations in and around Hamburg will once again host this major cultural and musical event in northern Germany. This year, under the theme “There’s Always Something New to Marvel At,” there will be well over 300 free events featuring a diverse range of artistic performances. For the first time, the Night of Churches is being held in cooperation with the Hamburg Monument Foundation.
Every year, the Night of Churches creates vibrant spaces for encounter—featuring music, literature, art, cabaret, laser shows, discussions, spirituality, and science.
It is organized jointly by the city’s Protestant and Catholic churches, each offering its own unique approach—whether quiet, loud, serious, playful, or even experimental.
Musically, visitors can look forward to a diverse program: pop and rock concerts, rap, and electronic beats accompanied by spectacular light shows are on the schedule, as are gospel choirs and the “Young Classical Music” stage at St. Jacobi, in collaboration with the University of Music and Theater.
After the metal scene made its debut at the Night of Churches last year, this collaboration continues. The Metal Church raises the question: What do hard rock and spirituality have in common, or topics such as death, grief, and consolation?
The night will be a journey through the city of Hamburg and its places of worship—an evening that brings people together, creates space for dialogue, and focuses on encounter and shared celebration.
The complete program and detailed information about the participating churches and artists can be found on the website ndkh.de. Additionally, the “Kirchennacht” app is available for iOS and Android.
