Nadia Beugré is one of the most influential choreographers exploring artistic and social boundaries between Africa and Europe. Her choreographies repeatedly combine rawness and warmth. In her latest piece, she returns to the place of her childhood in Côte d'Ivoire - Yikakou. But the village no longer exists, it has long since been overgrown by forest, the fields have dried up and the graves of her ancestors have grown in between. Yikakou lives on only in memories. What remains of a place that has long since disappeared? Inspired by her great-grandmother Gbahihonon ("the woman who says what she sees"), Nadia Beugré follows in the footsteps of powerful female figures from her homeland. Épique ! (pour Yikakou) opens up the space to listen to the voices of the ancestors, a polyphonic echo of intimate and collective memories. Accompanied by the griotte, a guardian of forgotten stories, Charlotte Dali and the balafon music of Salimata Diabate, she tells of the "impossible return" and makes forgotten voices tangible again. A performance ritual that celebrates the power of female resistance - tender, direct and with a captivating presence.
