NAOKO TANAKA - Milliarden Jahre Widerhall // tanzOFFensive 2024

Billions of Years of Reverberation is a performative installation that opens up imaginary spaces and raises questions about connection and alienation from people and their terrain.

Tanaka's exploration began with research trips to the contaminated zone of Fukushima. A place where people's ambivalent relationship with the earth was interrupted in a catastrophic event. The radioactive material caused a fundamental shift in the earth's crust that rewrote the history of the planet. Tanaka documented her encounters with human and non-human actors on site in a diary and sketchbook. This resulted in a series of interdisciplinary works that now invite visitors on a sensory expedition into the impossible as elements of a performative exhibition. Performance, stop-motion film, drawing and text, light reflections, concentrated movements and a reduced structure are brought into choreographic and architectural arrangements by Tanaka. The result is contemplative, sublime compositions that alienate and expand the dimensionality of our perception of depth and distance.
