Nefeli Kavouras | "Yellow, also a beautiful thought"

A wonderful book about a mother-daughter relationship in a never-ending exceptional situation, sometimes tender and poetic, sometimes angry, humorous and very directly told with a surprising twist that puts the end of a life and how we deal with it in a completely new and unknown light. Georg is dying, and has been for far too long. While Ruth obliviously cares for her husband at home, alienating herself from her fifteen-year-old daughter Lea, who finally wants to lead a normal and unrestrained youthful life. Ruth and Lea need each other,
but drift further and further apart. And then something happens to Georg that nobody expected.

Nefeli Kavouras, born in Bamberg in 1996, studied cultural studies in Lüneburg. She works for mairisch Verlag, curates the "altonale" literature programme, runs the literary podcast "laxbrunch" with Anselm Neft and regularly hosts and organizes readings. In 2023, she was awarded the Hamburg Literature Prize for her novel manuscript. In 2025, she was invited by Laura de Weck to read an excerpt from it at the 49th Days of German-Language Literature in Klagenfurt. Awarded the Hamburg Literature Prize 2023.
