17-year-old Fatima is the youngest of three daughters in a French-Algerian family in a Parisian suburb. Her favorite sport is soccer, at school she hangs out with the most boastful boys in her class, and she has a secret boyfriend who is already thinking about getting married. However, Fatima is finding it increasingly difficult to hide what no one is allowed to know: Her heart beats for women. When she starts studying philosophy in Paris, a whole new world opens up for her. Torn between family tradition, faith and her desire for freedom, Fatima has to find her own way.

THE YOUNGEST DAUGHTER is an adaptation of Fatima Daas' acclaimed autofictional debut novel from 2020 and the third feature film by French screenwriter and director Hafsia Herzi. With emotional impact, the film follows the sexual coming-of-age of a young woman and her search for a place in the world. Largely cast with non-professional actors, directed with tenderness and sensitivity, but without shying away from breaking taboos, Hafsia Herzi has created an instant classic of queer cinema.

In her first role in front of the camera, Nadia Melliti celebrates a brilliant start with her powerfully restrained, breathtaking performance. She was awarded the Best Actress prize at the 78th Cannes International Film Festival, where the film received a 12-minute standing ovation at its premiere. The film also won the Queer Palm.
