The 1970s. Runaway Jeanne finds refuge in a film studio and falls under the spell of Cristina, the enigmatic leading actress of the film "The Snow Queen", which is currently being shot there. Christina is considered brilliant, perfectionist and complicated, but surprisingly she develops a caring affection for Jeanne. A mutual fascination develops between the actress and the young woman.

Inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale "The Snow Queen", award-winning French director Lucile Hadžihalilović tells a hypnotic coming-of-age story between dream and reality. After INNOCENCE (2004), Hadžihalilović once again casts French superstar Marion Cotillard in a multi-layered double role. The young Clara Pacini shines in her first major role, flanked by August Diehl as Cristina's enigmatic companion. HEART OF ICE is a poetic cinematic experience full of beguiling images and dark allure.
