When Liam Óg's party night ends in a police interrogation room, Irish teacher JJ, who is supposed to interpret for the English-speaking policewoman, not only helps him hide the LSD from his notebook. The lyrics in it by Liam Óg and his buddy Naoise about drugs, sex and resistance to the British establishment, together with a few beats from JJ's garage, become an unplanned wave that sweeps across Belfast. But the police, politicians and paramilitaries all have their own reasons for wanting to nip the band's success in the bud. Between radio boycotts and arson attacks, the three chaotic lads are caught in the crossfire and unexpectedly become the political and rebellious symbol of an entire generation.

There are 80,000 native Irish speakers in Ireland. 6,000 live in the North of Ireland. Three of them became a rap group called Kneecap. This anarchic Belfast trio becomes the unlikely figurehead of a civil rights movement to save the mother tongue.

When fate brings Belfast schoolteacher JJ into the orbit of self-confessed 'low life scum' Naoise & Liam Og, the needle drops on a hip hop act like no other. Rapping in their native Irish language, KNEECAP fast become the unlikely figureheads of a Civil Rights movement to save their mother tongue. But the trio must first overcome police, paramilitaries & politicians trying to silence their defiant sound - whilst their anarchic approach to life often makes them their own worst enemies. In this fiercely original sex, drugs and hip-hop biopic KNEECAP play themselves, laying down a global rallying cry for the defense of native cultures.
