While winter hangs over the city of Vienna and the anticipation of the ball season grows, the summer nights of Buenos Aires are spent dancing outdoors at milongas. As different as the climate is, so different are the musical cultures. Conducted by Nicolás Pasquet, the Jena Philharmonic Orchestra combines the lively music of the Viennese Strauss dynasty and Franz von Suppè with the rousing pulse of South and Central America - represented by works by Arturo Márquez, Gerardo Matos Rodríguez and Alberto Ginastera. Buenos Aires-born bandoneon virtuoso Omar Massa presents his own composition "Buenos Aires Resonances" and interprets Astor Piazzolla's concerto "Aconcagua". A contrasting and passionate end to the year full of musical discoveries, in which the bandoneon - a manifestation of the accordion, which was named Instrument of the Year 2026 - plays a leading role.
