Kia Ora - Welcome to New Zealand! Eight intensive months the well-known 3D photographer and filmmaker Stephan Schulz was on the road by camper, kayak and on foot at the most beautiful end of the world.
He hiked through rainforests and over snowy mountain passes, scrambled on glaciers, paddled along gorgeous coasts and explored caves with their fossil treasures. On incredibly starry nights, he managed to film the kiwi in the wild - New Zealand's shy and nocturnal national bird.
Nature was so lavish here that he was repeatedly inspired to take aerial shots from helicopters, drones and even by parachute.
True treasures also revealed themselves to him underwater: He explored the coral-covered bluffs of the famous Milford Sound and ventured into the diversity of kelp forests off the Poor Knight Islands. He also had a breathtaking encounter with a sperm whale - the world's largest predator. And in Vanuatu he dived a huge wreck that almost equals the Titanic.
With all these natural treasures, Stephan Schulz also highlights critical issues such as the stranding of whales or environmental damage caused by introduced predators.
On his journey he also met some interesting people: For example, he met sheep farmers who train their dogs to become true master helpers and accompanied Maori in what they consider a sacred river in search of the semi-precious stone jade.
Stephan Schulz's wanderlust extended even further to the South Pacific "environs" of New Zealand. He visited the animal paradises of the subantarctic islands with their huge penguin colonies, elephant seals and albatrosses. And in Vanuatu, he immersed himself in the exotic culture of the tropical South Pacific. He visited descendants of cannibals and documented the Naghol festival where, in a breakneck tribal ritual, brave men throw themselves headfirst from a high tower. Secured only by vines that they knot around their feet. And he looked at an extremely active volcano in its hell mouth from which every few minutes with a deafening thunder lava is thrown out.
