In 2023, Deutschlandfunk and Musikfest Bremen awarded their sponsorship prize to the German-Italian conductor Nicolò Foron - a remarkable talent! A pupil of the legendary Jorma Panula from the age of eleven, he studied in Amsterdam and London, where he has been assistant conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra since winning the 17th Donatella Flick Conducting Competition in 2023. The prizewinner will now take to the podium of the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin. Hector Berlioz's Symphonie fantastique, an effective stroke of genius about "episodes from an artist's life", makes you feel the highs and lows of love and death, of exuberant festive mood and wild dance of hell. Anastasia Kobekina, who comes from Ekaterinburg and has lived in Germany since 2012, challenges the orchestra as an equal partner with her breathtaking musicality and technique in Schumann's Cello Concerto. The opener: Lili Boulanger's "D'un soir triste", the last work by the highly talented composer born in 1893. With its rich instrumental colors, it reflects her dark premonition of approaching death at the age of only 24 in ten minutes of gripping music - absolutely moving.
