NIGHTCRAWLERS

NIGHTCRAWLERS is a declaration of love for monstrosity and horror. The audience becomes part of an immersive 360° performance installation in the tradition of "Halloween Haunts": walk-through environments staged as haunted houses and creepy cabinets. Thrust into darkness, the Nightcrawlers have created a place both eerie and enticing, where they experience pleasure, lust, dignity and community according to their own rules.

On October 28, 29, and 31, 2023, NIGHTCRAWLERS will open the doors of the Alte Münze in Berlin-Mitte, inviting 150 guests per evening to enjoy a challenging, artistic as well as entertaining experience. 20 individually designed spaces over 800 square meters, dedicated to different facets of fear, will be performed by 20 professional performers from the fields of theater, film, dance, performance art and scare acting. Audiences will have 30 intense minutes, individually or in small groups, to walk through the world of the Nightcrawlers.

While Halloween provides a worthwhile seasonal hook for a queer haunt, the horror genre has always been a stage for negotiating queer histories and identities. NIGHTCRAWLERS brings this history into 21st century Berlin, celebrating state-of-the art monsters and creatures. The particular form of fear negotiated in NIGHTCRAWLERS is situated in physicality. Some call it "body horror": a genre centered on transgressive manifestations and alterations of the body and the corporeal.

NIGHTCRAWLERS makes the case that horror speaks of and to queerness in a unique way, and that haunts belong in the immersive performing arts.
