Nikita Sipiagin and Genius Wesley got to know each other through their studies at the Jazzcampus in Basel. Together with the Berlin bassist Johann Greve and the Leipzig pianist Vincent Meissner, they have now formed a quartet that unites four young musicians from the USA and Germany in an exciting project.

Saxophonist Nikita Sipiagin comes from New York and studied with Mark Turner and Dick Oatts. His playing combines an exploration of the jazz tradition with a contemporary sound of his own. He is the son of trumpeter Alex Sipiagin and grandson of Toshiko Akiyoshi and Charlie Mariano, two influential figures in jazz. Despite this special musical background, he pursues an independent path as an instrumentalist and bandleader.

Genius Wesley, drummer from California, currently lives in Basel, where he is studying on a full scholarship with Jeff Ballard at the Jazzcampus. At the age of 23, he has already played with musicians such as David Binney, Sean Jones, Gerald Clayton and Seamus Blake. In addition to his concert activities, he regularly works with young musicians in workshops.
