NILS KARLSSON DÄUMLING

"What kind of boy are you?" asked Bertil.
"And what are you doing under my bed?"
"My name is Nils Karlsson Thumbelina," replied the little boy.
"I live here."

Bertil's parents have to work all the time, so the boy is often alone at home, fighting boredom. But this routine is suddenly interrupted when he hears a noise that seems to be coming from the wall. He can hardly believe his eyes: someone has actually moved into the mouse hole in his wall! A little fellow who introduces himself as Nils Karlsson Thumbelina. The two of them take an instant liking to each other and Nils Karlsson Thumbelina invites Bertil to his mousehole apartment. But how could he fit into the mousehole? It takes a bit of magic before Bertil can shrink and the two of them can experience adventures together behind the wall.

A clever, sensitive and clearly narrated chamber opera for soprano and violin. For children aged four and over (and adults).
