Nixe Kieliane sucht die Ostseeperle

In the organizer's words:

Mermaid Kieliane has been living alone on an undiscovered sandbank in the Kiel Fjord for many, many years. She has never been swimming. She is afraid of the cold Baltic Sea water in which her family members frolic so happily. But one day, a shell washes up on Kieliane's beach. The shell is very sad because it has lost its singing pearl. Only a creature that can swim purposefully - like the mermaid with her fish tail - can help the mussel find the pearl. Kieliane overcomes her fears for the sake of her new friend, the mussel. Kieliane dives into the depths of the Baltic Sea and embarks on an eventful search for the musical pearl.

With the new development of an opera for children from the age of 4, we are realizing a special project funded by the city of Kiel as part of the "Baltic Sea Region Cultural Pearls 2024" program: primary school children accompany the process and compose the sound of the sea themselves.

Accompanying theater educational material
For selected productions of the theater, we offer comprehensive material with educational theater games and methods for preparation in schools or daycare centers. For our special children's opera, the material also includes instructions for making props and instruments that will be used during the visit to the theater. Because all children will be an active part of the opera!
