The boundaries between entertainment, satire and information have dissolved: former satirists such as Beppo Grillo, Martin Sonneborn and Volodymyr Selenskyj have taken on high political offices. Others, such as Jan Böhmermann (ZDF), work either as satirists or journalists. It is also not uncommon for politics to take on grotesque traits.
Together with Raúl Acosta Garcia and Moritz Post, members of the Frankfurt research project NoJoke, we discuss whether and how humor defines the political present and how we talk about it. The research project has been working on this topic since 2023 and integrates humoristic methods into the scientific approach.
