To be the first to conquer the notorious north face of the Eiger - in the summer of 1936, this is the dream of many mountaineers from all over Europe. The thoughts of the two Berchtesgaden climbing aces Toni Kurz and Andi Hinterstoisser also revolved around nothing else. The two are convinced that they can do it, even though numerous attempts on the "murder wall" have already ended fatally. But the first ascent will not only bring them the social advancement they long for, but also Olympic gold. During the preparations at the foot of the north face, Toni and Andi unexpectedly meet Luise, Toni's childhood sweetheart, who is to report on the first ascent as a journalist alongside the Nazi-loyal reporter Arau.

Our new film series is dedicated to the mountains - majestic and threatening at the same time. Both large and small, the films tell of ascents and falls, summit victories and failure. Sometimes a mountain has to be conquered, sometimes the path leads dangerously downhill, sometimes there is no turning back, sometimes there is only a detour all the way around. The mountains often symbolize inner conflicts, life crises or seemingly insurmountable obstacles. A series about the forces of nature, human ambition and the question of how far we will go to get up - or down again safely.
