The Second World War is over, Nazi Germany has been defeated and now the top fascists who were caught alive are to be tried in Nuremberg. Hermann Göring (Russell Crowe) is one of the accused before the International Military Tribunal convened especially for this purpose. The Allies naturally want the trial against him to be as watertight as possible and therefore commission the psychiatrist Douglas Kelly (Rami Malek). His job is to check whether Göring is even fit to stand trial. It remains essential to look the evil man directly in the eye. So Kelly regularly visits Göring in his cell to get a picture of him through conversation. It is not always easy for Kelly to let Göring's charisma and manipulative talent simply drip off him. But this is absolutely necessary in order not to jeopardize the upcoming trial...
