OBERSTUFENABEND GERDA-TARO-GYMNASIUM

DANCE is a top priority at Gerda-Taro-Gymnasium. The basic course "Urban Dance/ Urban Dance Theater", which students can take from year 11 onwards, is a special feature of the school landscape. You can look forward to an evening full of movement, images and stories. This is where school meets stage, training meets expression, idea meets body: dance becomes storytelling, questioning, experimentation. What happens when young dancers spend a year working with music, choreography, improvisation and stage art is shown live and directly in the format of the sixth form evening.
The basic courses in years 11 and 12 present their annual productions: DIE FRAU, DIE DEN MOMENT EINFING - a dance portrait of the Jewish photographer Gerda Taro between departure, attitude and the attempt to capture the moment. And: DANCE OF FEELINGS, inspired by Arthur Schnitzler's "Reigen", unfolds a multi-layered game of encounters, closeness and distance, desire and misunderstandings. An evening that opens up dance as a space for experience.

THE WOMAN WHO CAPTURED THE MOMENT (duration: approx. 30 minutes)
The Jewish photographer Gerda Taro wanted to report and create visibility with her photographs. She wanted to get up close and personal for the world public! For Taro, the camera was a tool for witnessing and participating in solidarity. Leipzig, the rise of the NSDAP and her time in exile in Paris also shaped her political stance and the need to use her own voice to defend herself against fascism and anti-Semitism.
The play deals with the stages, visions and convictions of Gerda Taro and shows the ever-present urgency and topicality of the issues that also drove Taro to fight back and get involved.

DANCE OF FEELINGS (duration: approx. 25 minutes)
Poly, mono, hetero, homo, bi, pan, A, queer - the variety of terms is as confusing as the diversity of sexual realities and life models. People meet each other. It pulsates. Their encounter is intimate, wild, free, awkward, passionate, passionless, restrained, intimate, insecure, safe ... Sometimes it is a fleeting moment, sometimes it is short-lived, sometimes a firm bond of connection develops regardless of proximity and distance.
Inspired by the play "Reigen" by Arthur Schnitzler, the dancers explore the diversity of interpersonal encounters and the associated feelings, social values and (supposed) norms in our fast-moving times.
