We live in a mass consumer society. Food, clothing, furniture, household appliances, consumer electronics and other everyday items have been produced in large numbers since the 1950s and have become affordable for the general population. "What happens to the artifacts of mass consumption after they have lost their original utility value?" The joint exhibition by the Historisches Museum Bielefeld and the Huelsmann Museum explores these questions. Numerous objects, interviews with contemporary witnesses and a colorful program of events shed light on the flip side of mass consumption and invite visitors to reflect on their own use of things and learn about alternatives.
