With the new reading series "Open Pages", the Lesebandhalle of the former colliery is transformed into a place for contemporary literature - for texts that make diversity audible, bring together different voices and pose questions about our times. In April, journalist and presenter Tessniem Kadiri invites you to read her book "Baba Issues. How my relationship with my father shaped me", journalist and presenter Tessniem Kadiri invites you on a literary search for traces of origin, gender roles and belonging.

Tessniem Kadiri's "Baba Issues" will not let her go: she is repeatedly caught up in the patriarchal male image that her father grew up with in rural Morocco. Satisfying the demands of two societies that couldn't be more different is a conflict she shares with many of her migrant friends. How can she free herself from this and what is real emancipation? On a trip to Morocco, Tessniem explores the limits of her own shame and freedom.

Where once coal was sorted and "picked out", today words are turned, voices are heard and attitudes are examined. The new literature format "Open Pages" opens up perspectives, promotes discourse and celebrates the diversity of literary forms of expression: from novels and spoken word to essayistic and hybrid formats. Between poetry and politics, memory and renewal, belonging and doubt, the invited authors and the audience meet at eye level - in a joint reflection on identity, responsibility and what unites or divides us.
