"Cows in semi-mourning"

Two men saw firewood in a rural setting. In the evening, commemorative programs flicker across the screen in the village inn because it is July 20. The next day, the two friends debate the possibilities of overt and covert resistance under National Socialism at the circular saw - with an astonishing result.

With wit and poignancy, Schmidt tells of post-war society, its blind spots and the question of one's own historical responsibility.

Oliver Nägele (67) has been a member of the Vienna Burgtheater ensemble since the 2019/20 season. Prior to this, he spent many years on stage at the Münchner Kammerspiele and the Residenztheater in Munich. He can also be seen at the Salzburg Festival. Under the direction of Doris Dörrie, Oliver Nägele has appeared in several cinema films since the 1990s.

Even though his acting focus is on theater work, Nägele is also a regular presence on German television. Born in Frankfurt, he has appeared in crime series such as "Tatort", "Polizeiruf 110" and "Der Bulle von Tölz". Nägele demonstrated his comedic talent in 2018 and 2019, when he appeared throughout seasons 9 and 10 of "Pastewka".
