As a star conductor, Omer Meir Wellber has quickly won the hearts of Hamburg’s residents. What very few people know is that Omer Meir Wellber—born in Israel and raised in Germany—is not only an excellent musician but also a novelist. His debut novel, *The Four Fainting Spells of Chaim Birkner* (2019), is a picaresque novel, brimming with wit and pace, about the trauma of a lost homeland experienced by European Jews who emigrated to Israel. Wellber’s hero is an antihero; he lives from 1930 to 2038 and lives to be 108 years old… He is a Holocaust survivor, an immigrant, a kibbutznik, a writer, an office worker, a liar, and a reluctant father all at once—a man of many faces and stories…

Together with musicians from the Hamburg State Philharmonic Orchestra and in conversation with Joachim Lux, he will introduce himself and his literary work, including his book on Mozart, *Die Angst, das Risiko und die Liebe* (Fear, Risk, and Love).

Omer Meir Wellber is the General Music Director of the Hamburg State Opera and the Hamburg State Philharmonic Orchestra.
