Lecture, terminal tour, visit to security checkpoint and tour by bus
During the themed airport tour, interested parties can find out about the 1990s at the airport. These were years of new beginnings and change. There was a great demand for flight connections. Starting with many domestic flights within Germany, followed by countless offers to tourist destinations to take advantage of the newly gained freedom to travel. In order to create the structural and operational conditions for this, the airport was designed, planned and built in a very short space of time. The urgently needed new terminal (Terminal B) was opened in 1996.
The tour begins with a presentation in the IL-18 room, showing photos of the Terminal A extension, the "Interim Terminal C", the construction of Terminal B, the combined heat and power plant and much more. This is followed by a tour of the terminal and, after passing through security, a tour of the airport by bus.
Event as part of the special exhibition "Between awakening and liquidation. The 90s in Leipzig" (25.9.2024 - 7.9.2025)
