Oper erleben: Die Piraten von Penzance

In the organizer's words:

At the age of 21, Frederic finishes his apprenticeship as a pirate and automatically becomes an equal member of the Pirates of Penzance. But Frederic has plans of his own: he wants to leave the pirate gang and return to civilization. Once ashore, he falls in love with Mabel, the daughter of Major General Stanley. But the pirates are also hunting for Mabel and her beautiful sisters. At the last moment, the general is able to thwart the pirate attack by claiming to be an orphan. Since the pirates are orphans themselves, they do not have the heart to attack other orphans. But the general is hard-pressed by the lie, and Frederic also gets into trouble again: since he was born in a leap year on February 29, he has officially only had five birthdays so far and is therefore obliged to resume his pirate apprenticeship ...

Even if Gilbert and Sullivan clashed again and again throughout their lives, the two nevertheless left musical theater comedies for eternity in congenial collaboration. The Pirates of Penzance is one of the duo's most successful works. In it, authorities such as the military, the police and even Queen Victoria herself are skilfully taken to task. On a musical level, this musical pioneer also contains numerous allusions to well-known opera classics - from Verdi's Il trovatore to Beethoven's Fidelio. Be there when the young talents of the two play clubs We DO Opera! - OperaKids and We DO Opera! - OperaYoungsters, under the direction of Alexander Becker, set sail on an absurd buccaneering voyage full of the best British humor.

On the following dates there will be a guided tour of the theater before the performance and a workshop (duration approx. 20 - 30 minutes) on the play after the performance
