"The wild one", "The tricky one", "The rebellious one", "The robbed one": Orchids are not only beautiful, they are true masterpieces of evolution. From February 15 to March 21, 2024, the Biosphäre Potsdam will be showcasing these fascinating beauties in this year's orchid bloom.
Floral jewels are framed in the green thicket of the jungle. The exhibition shows the ingenious characteristics that the queen of flowers has developed over the course of evolution.
Valuable tips on keeping and caring for the plants are available in the Orchid Café at the Biosphäre Potsdam. Over a cup of coffee or tea, you can chat with our orchid expert Ivonne Bartsch-Kiesant and other fans of these delicate plants.
When we think of orchids, we usually see exotic beauties, such as the popular Phalaenopsis orchid. Few people are aware of the diversity of orchids in Europe and Germany. Even in our latitudes, native orchids impress with their creative flowering splendor and a multitude of amazing characteristics. The photo exhibition by Marco Klüber shows how colorful the "wild beauties" can be in this country.
If you want to take home a floral souvenir, you will find the right orchid for your home in the Biosphäre Potsdam store at the end of the tour.
A visit to the Orchid Blossom exhibition is included in the admission price for the Biosphäre Potsdam.
WHO CARES FOR THE QUEEN OF FLOWERS?
For more than 20 years, our Biosphäre gardener Ivonne Bartsch-Kiesant has been looking after our 20,000 magnificent tropical plants at the Biosphäre Potsdam. The colorful orchids that adorn the tropical garden every year during our special orchid bloom exhibition are her special treasures.
