Orgelexkursion - Orgeln des Elsass

In the organizer's words:
This season's organ excursion takes us to picturesque Alsace!
We will visit two outstanding instruments of European organ building: The magnificent organ (1882) by Joseph Merklin (1819-1905) in the church of Saints Pierre et Paul in Obernai impresses with its romantic sonority, symphonic disposition and finely tuned colors - a typical masterpiece of 19th century French organ building. In Ebersmünster, the organ (1732) by Gottfried Silbermann (1683-1753) awaits you in the abbey church of St. Mauritius. It is characterized in particular by its clear intonation, brilliant principals and authentic French-Baroque tonal language. But it is not only its sound that is noteworthy: as it has only undergone minor restoration since it was built, it is one of the rare organs to be in exceptionally good original condition.
