In spring 2024, Prof. Lancelot Fuhry will return to the podium of the LJO Berlin. Born in Berlin, he enjoys great popularity in the orchestra due to his intense rehearsal atmosphere and captivating musicality and has already impressed audiences several times with his extraordinary programs.
At this year's Easter concert, the Landesjugendorchester is devoting itself to the tragic and combative power of music. In his Egmont Overture, Beethoven explores the plot of Goethe's tragedy "Egmont". The theme of resistance to oppression and foreign rule is skillfully expressed.
In keeping with the instrument of the year, the young musicians accompany tuba player Donath Rehm in Edward Gregson's tuba concerto. Characterized by contrasting movements, lyrical themes and rhythmic characteristics, it takes listeners on a journey into the tonal diversity of this rarely seen solo instrument.
At the heart of the concert is Dmitri Shostakovich's powerful 5th Symphony. Characterized by socialist realism and repression during the Stalinist terror, the work provides an insight into a troubled emotional world. Behind resistance and the splendor of triumph, abysses open up: grotesque, cheerfully superimposed themes are followed by nostalgia and deepest despair. Threat and tragedy resound in the supposed jubilation.
