To these moving words by the American writer and civil rights activist Maya Angelou, Oulouy dances his tense solo BLACK on the small stage of tanzhaus nrw in April.

BLACK physically reflects the violence and emancipation of being black in today's world. A body that narrates, challenges and disturbs - that is both wounded and celebrated. In his exciting solo, dancer Oulouy from Spain embodies the struggle for recognition, equality and respect for Black people, referencing events in recent history such as the #blacklivesmatter movement or the murder of George Floyd. It is a dance chronicle of the freedom movement and plays cleverly, skillfully and passionately with a choreographic repertoire inspired by the most important urban styles of the African continent and the USA, such as Coupé-Décalé, Azont, Ndomboló, Afrohouse and Krump. There will be a talk with the artist immediately afterwards.

Oulouy, born in the Ivory Coast, lives in Barcelona and is considered a key figure in the global street dance scene. In 2022, Oulouy received a nomination at the Catalan Critics' Awards for Performing Arts and another at the Dansacat Awards in the Best Dancer of the Year category. He is the founder and curator of the international festival OYOFE, which is dedicated to street dance. For BLACK, Oulouy was awarded 2nd prize at the 19th International Choreography Competition of Burgos and New York in the Urban Dance category.

BLACK is an inspiring and empowering piece about overcoming injustice, oppression and discrimination. About not letting things get you down, but standing up with self-respect and confidence.

Tickets can be requested via the request button/reservation form. School performances are particularly suitable for schools, but also for daycare centers, kindergartens and other care, educational and leisure facilities. 4 per child/young person, accompanying persons have Free admission. Additional booking of a workshop in connection with a school performance is possible for an additional €2 per person.

Family performances:
Tickets can be purchased via our Reservix ticket portal. Family performances are particularly suitable for families and private groups with children and young people. 9 € for everyone, further reductions are not possible.
