Our Man In The Field, the project of British singer-songwriter Alex Ellis, offers a captivating blend of indie folk and Americana with an unmistakable, soulful country flair. Their sound is inspired by legends like Van Morrison, Neil Young and Wilco, but develops a modern, unique voice, according to Glide Magazine. The band's live performances are characterized by wide guitar melodies and catchy choruses.
Their second album "Gold On The Horizon", released in late 2023, was critically acclaimed and described by Americana Highways as "wonderful" and potentially "timeless". Bill Bentley, in his review for Americana Highways, highlighted the album's soulful vocals and stripped-down arrangements, noting a Van Morrison-esque quality. This album solidifies Our Man In The Fields position as a band that delivers on the promise of their debut, impressing with new confidence and maturity without sacrificing their trademark modesty and intimacy.
With their upcoming album "Silverado", recorded at Mark Knopfler's British Grove Studios, the band continues to break new ground. The ambitious project, produced by Guy Fletcher (Dire Straits), boasts a high-caliber guest list, including Ethan Johns and Sonny Landreth. Guy Fletcher himself can also be heard on the album. Matt Owens, former founding member of Noah and The Whale, joins the band and adds a new dimension to their live performances.
The year has seen the rapid rise of Our Man In The Field with triumphant performances at prestigious concert halls and festivals. They wowed audiences at the Highways Festival at the Royal Albert Hall, played to enthusiastic crowds at Glastonbury and opened for Neil Young in Hyde Park, where they shared the stage with legends such as Van Morrison and Yusuf/Cat Stevens. These high profile performances underline their growing reputation as one of the UK's most exciting and important bands.
