In the organizer's words:

For several weeks now, we, the team from Kunstraum IDEAL, have been travelling through the Leipzig region and visiting self-organized, small, regional museums and local museums. We are collecting, asking, observing and investigating the ways of telling and exhibiting our own history and the identity of different places. These field trips will serve as research for the upcoming exhibition "Panorama", which opens in February 2026.

On December 10 at 6 pm, we invite you to a lecture by Alexis Hyman Wolff at IDEAL. The artist and curator (born 1982, Los Angeles) will present two museum projects she initiated in Brandenburg as well as current projects at the Kultur- & Friedhofscafé LISBETH (Berlin). Using these examples, she will highlight methods of community-oriented museum work and the special challenges in rural contexts.

From 2015 to 2017, Alexis Hyman Wolff worked in the municipality of Kleinmachnow, where she laid the foundations for an experimental local history museum. She received her M.A. in Artistic Museum Studies from the Institute for Art in Context at Berlin University of the Arts in 2015. Alexis Hyman Wolff explores museum practice as a community-based process by investigating self-organized museums as identity-forming places, working at the intersection of artistic, social and scientific practice in the museum context.

Insights into our previous excursions, initial research materials and collected objects will be on display in the exhibition space. Afterwards, we want to round off the evening and the year with you over mulled wine, tea and potato cake.
