Parkside Sessions with Laíz, Lucy Liebe, Henry Weekes

Parkside Sessions is Orangerie Neukölln's new live music series, dedicated to showcasing diverse, up-and-coming talents on Wednesdays. Next up on stage, we present Laíz, Lucy Liebe, Henry Weekes.

Lucy Liebe is a queer multi-instrumentalist producer and songwriter we are happy to host as the first act of the evening. Having worked a long time in Jazz and Beatmusic she's reinventing herself as Alternative Rnb Artist.

To follow is transdisciplinary artist Laíz, born in the city of Jundiaí in the state of São Paulo in 1999 and relocated to Germany in 2019, where she made her mark on the Berlin jazz scene by blending Latin, jazz, and Afrobeat with Brazilian hip-hop. Laíz's debut double LP with The New Love Experience "Ela Partiu" is set to be unveiled in May 2024. Laíz aims with her music to bring the Sun of the South and the São Paulo Urban culture to the jazz and Hip-Hop scene in Europe. Blending multiple genres with political and cultural messages of Latino America.

First seen together with Laíz as their saxophonist, Henry will close the evening with a DJ set. Community and collective experience; these are the main drivers for Henry Weekes' music. Taking inspiration from jazz, folklore, mythology, their queer identity and their Brazilian heritage, Henry uses the saxophone to perform through melodic improvisation and motivic development, incorporating sampling and field recordings to craft site-specific live musical performances. Henry currently runs a live motivational development concert series Soft Awakenings, which connect the individuality and interdependence of performers, audience and space, the events lead into their own research pairing academic and embodied musical inter-spatial practices. They have also held residencies at Audio Technica's Analogue Foundation and recorded and performed at the Berlin institutions Kraftwerk and Ohm. As well as live performances, Henry is a resident on Refuge Worldwide radio and a contributor for WeJazz Magazine.
