Particle presents: Rami Olsen »Radical Tenderness«

In the organizer's words:

Rami Olsen's "Radical Tenderness" is the first pop/jazz album composed exclusively in microtonal tuning systems. The songs present a diverse musical palette and show that microtonality is not a genre, but a new, exciting perspective on melody and harmony.

How is harmony created and what is it anyway? How can music contribute to harmony in a globalized and increasingly polarized world? How can we meet diverse musical cultures at eye level and learn from each other?

It is questions like these that inspire Rami - influenced by a variety of genres and musical traditions, from Snarky Puppy, Jacob Collier and Jason Mraz to Irish fiddle tunes, Moroccan Gnawa rhythms and ultimately his own Iraqi roots - and motivate him to dedicate a YouTube channel to his passion for microtonal possibilities.

Rami merges occidental harmonies with oriental intervals, thus combining seemingly contradictory interpretations of music. In order to realize his musical utopia, Rami plays on custom-made guitars with interchangeable fingerboards, uses freely intonating instruments (e.g. violin/cello) and voices, as well as a keyboard that is retuned live by the "Infinitone" software as required.

He prefers to write for unconventional band constellations in order to bring together people from diverse cultural backgrounds and create new, cross-genre soundscapes. The project has developed into a community of inquisitive and enthusiastic musicians who incorporate and disseminate the musical concepts in their own repertoires.

Over the years, Rami has built relationships with many musicians and academics from around the world, including major figures in the modern jazz scene such as Adam Neely, Jacob Collier, Barak Schmool, Jake Sherman, Philipp Gerschlauer and many more.

An evening full of new songs, fascinating instruments and harmonies you've never heard before.
