Community as an artistic practice

The Pasta Arrabbiata format takes up the everyday ritual of eating to explore community and hospitality as an artistic practice. With each performance, a temporary community is created - a dynamic platform that is constantly reshaped by those present.

As a practice characterized by repetition and continuity, the format resists social fragmentation. The resistance lies in the sharing of space and time - against isolation, against economic logics of exploitation, against the idea that encounters must be planned, productive or exclusive.

Friends of the fold are coming.
People who have wanted to come along for a long time.
Neighbors and flat-sharing communities from the surrounding area come.
Some walk past the open gate by chance, read the sign on the street - and simply enter.

Eating together breaks down barriers and opens the door to open interaction.Every evening is a new arrangement of relationships, voices, gestures and coincidences.

How does the evening work?

Time & openness:
You can join us at any time between 6 and 9 pm - the pasta will be continuously re-cooked during the evening.

Place:
We sit together at a large table with benches (if required, there are also sturdy chairs with backrests). Next to it is a small improvised kitchen - and a supply of jars of hot tomato sauce (arrabbiata).

Procedure:
The freshly cooked pasta is mixed with the warm hot sauce. When a bowl is empty, the sauce is added. The bowls are placed on the table - everyone takes their own or passes them on.

Join in & bring along:
Anyone who wants to can help with the cooking. You are welcome to bring and share your own drinks, parmesan or cheese alternatives.

Space & atmosphere:
Sometimes it's quiet, sometimes it's full - if there's no space, we improvise something, or it's worth waiting a short while or coming back later.

Cost contribution:
Pasta Arrabbiata thrives on solidarity contributions of between €5 and €10. These help to cover the running costs and keep the format running regularly. If you can contribute more, you can help to keep it that way.
